How the desk reads a fixture

The five-question checklist before every match

🪪

Who actually plays?

Predicted XIs are a starting point, not a guarantee. The desk only labels lineups 'confirmed' after an attributable source update. Until then, every predicted XI is a probable reading.

🏟

What does the surface allow?

Venue report covers pitch type, average first-innings score and boundary dimensions where verifiable. Small-sample warnings are flagged when a venue record is thin.

📈

Whose role is changing?

Role-change alerts track promoted batters and altered bowling phases — sometimes the most useful fantasy signal in a given match.

How late do updates arrive?

The desk timestamps every update and notes the data cut-off. If toss-time news changes the picture, you'll see a labelled post-toss panel.

Editorial methodology

How we read a fixture

The desk starts with three questions: who actually plays, what does the surface allow, and which role splits matter for fantasy. From there, we read recent form and venue data — but we publish a small-sample warning whenever a venue record is thin. We never invent probability percentages, and we do not present reasoning as guaranteed picks.

If a captain pick is published as "high confidence", the reasoning is shown in full on the prediction page so you can challenge it. If the desk gets something materially wrong, a correction note is published visibly on the affected page.

By the numbers

What the desk actually measures

5
Last appearances

Form reads pull from the player's most recent five innings or bowling spells where data is available.

3
Match phases

Powerplay, middle and death overs carry different fantasy weight — read them separately.

1
Source per claim

Every published number carries a source and a data cut-off timestamp.

100%
Correction visible

Material corrections are recorded on the affected page, not buried in an archive.

How to pick captain

The captain choice is a risk-management decision, not a popularity contest. Use the venue record and recent role, not the most-owned player.

Differential picks

Differentials only work when the underlying reasoning is solid. Read the desk's shortlist and decide which risks match your appetite.

📚

Building a long-term method

Regular readers build their own selection methods using the desk's captain, role and venue frameworks as scaffolding.

🔁

Catching late changes

Toss-time news often invalidates a captain pick. Readers use the desk's update feed to catch changes quickly.

🧾

Editorial corrections

Material corrections are recorded visibly on the affected page with the original line, the updated line, the reason and the time of correction. Reader trust depends on this.

How to read the desk's blog

The editorial blog is the desk's running log: match-day reporting, fantasy analysis, captain picks, role-change alerts and venue reports, published as the news arrives. The blog is organised by topic filter — match, squad, venue, fantasy — so readers can find the analysis they need without scrolling through everything the desk has published.

Editorial image supporting the desk method

Each blog post carries a timestamped update, a data cut-off and a labelled correction note when material details change. The desk publishes corrections visibly, not silently — material claims are revised with the original line, the updated line, the reason and the time of correction.

The blog is also where the desk publishes role-change alerts, which are the most reliable fantasy signal in any given match. Role changes drive fantasy value far more reliably than batting position moves, and the blog is the place to find them as they happen.

Editorial image supporting the desk method

The blog index is updated daily. The desk's recommended path through the blog is to start with the latest match briefing, then check the role-change alerts, then read the captain picks and the venue report. The blog's job is to give a fantasy team builder enough current information to make a selection decision.

FAQ

Reader questions, answered

How do you build a fantasy IPL team on this site?
We don't run a fantasy platform. We publish the desk's analysis so you can make selections on whichever platform you prefer. Start with the match prediction, check the captain shortlist, then review the form tracker for differentials.
When do predicted XIs get updated?
Predicted XIs are revised when confirmed team news arrives. Each prediction page shows the most recent update time and the data cut-off used for form and venue metrics. Replace 'probable' with 'confirmed' only after an attributable source update.
Why do some matches show only a venue report and no XI?
When squads are not yet announced, the desk publishes what is verifiable — surface report, recent form, role splits — and waits to publish a probable XI until there is something concrete to base it on. We do not invent players or roles.
Where do the form and venue numbers come from?
Recent-form numbers are calculated from the last five appearances of each player where the data is verifiable. Venue numbers come from publicly available season-level records. Each module shows its update time and the source data behind the chart.
Can I trust a captain pick written here?
Captain picks are reasoned recommendations based on the data the desk has. They are not guarantees. Selection conditions change after toss and confirmed lineups, so always re-check the latest update before locking your team.
Do you publish ownership percentages?
Not yet. We are building a verified ownership feed for the 2026 season and will publish it as soon as the underlying data is reliable. Until then, captain picks are reasoned from form and venue, not from ownership splits.
Who writes the analysis on iplfantasynow?
The desk is operated by named contributors who take responsibility for the published reasoning. Each prediction page shows the desk and the publication time. Corrections are recorded publicly in the editorial-policy page.
How do you handle corrections?
We publish correction notes visibly on the affected page when a material change is required, with the original line, the updated line, the reason, and the time of the correction.
Editorial methodology

How predictions are built

The desk's five-step reading

  • 1 · Squad confirmation. Predicted XIs are revised only when confirmed team news arrives from an attributable source.
  • 2 · Venue report. Surface type, boundary dimensions and average first-innings score — with a small-sample warning when data is thin.
  • 3 · Role analysis. Powerplay, middle and death-overs roles are read separately, since they carry different fantasy weight.
  • 4 · Recent form. Last-five appearances are the default sample, with a wider window when a player has fewer than five innings this season.
  • 5 · Risk notes. Every prediction page carries a labelled risk note: weather, dew, Impact Player usage and post-toss changes.
Weekly briefing

One email a week. Captain picks, role alerts and the venue splits.

The desk's weekly briefing covers the captain picks the desk is watching, role-change alerts from the previous week, and the venue splits that are likely to matter in the next round of fixtures. No app required.

7
day forecast window

Each briefing covers the next seven days of fixtures, the captain picks the desk is tracking, and the venue reports that should change how you balance your team.

Manifesto

What the desk believes

🔍

Show the work

Reasoning is published with every captain pick. Reader trust is built by showing how the pick was reached, not by claiming certainty.

🕒

Date every update

Material corrections carry timestamps. Old claims are not silently rewritten — they are corrected visibly with the reason and the time.

🧪

Question certainty

A 'high confidence' captain pick is reason to publish more evidence, not less. The desk treats confidence as a flag for scrutiny.
